Organisational Culture - Points to note for business survival

To develop a successful organisational culture, it has to be in alignment with the core values of the business. According to Robert E. Quinn and Kim s. Cameron, two researchers of the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, their investigation into the key qualities that make businesses survive revealed two key polarities from a list of thirty nine attributes.

  1. Internal vs. external dimension
  2. Stable vs. Flexible dimension
These two polarities can be further distributed into the four types of organisational culture which businesses can adopt to fit with their mission and core values or use interchangeably as the situation arises.

I call it the four the four 'Cs' of organisational culture types

Collaboration - Teamwork
Create - Encourages entrepreneurship and creativity
Control - More hierarchical in construct. Very process driven
Clan  - Family oriented

Whichever culture type an organisation decides to adopt, it should create a sustainability framework that accommodate changes in culture shifts and adds whenever the needs arises.
