HR Vs. Employee : "Who Goofed Here?''

πŸ™ˆπŸ™   Recently, a friend shared her experience with me. She asked my advice on how to go about getting was she believed was her dues from an employer she had worked with for a year now.   THE STORY   My friend was shortlisted for a role as a Software developer with a start up company. During salary negotiations with HR, it was agreed that since the organisation could not pay her asking salary at the start, they would however review it upwards after the completion of a six month employment period and upon a successful appraisal exercise.   A letter was issued by HR stating this and my friend (The employee) signed the employment contract. She, however, was not given KPIs or performance metrics at the commencement of the employment period.   The six months period ended and the employee demanded a performance review as agreed. All that is required is a '' MINDSET SHIFT''  Having an attitude of rigidity would not help anyone progress in this rapidly ever evolving times .......   Being rigid may pump up your ego. Afterall, you are set in your ways and wouldn't change regardless of any circumstance to do so.   FOOD FOR THOUGHT Analyse the gains of staying rigid to that of being flexible and open to change. Although, the world would move on regardless of your mindset adaptation.   However, Stagnancy is the resultant effect of a rigid mindset whilst, that of a malleable mindset is Progression . Dear HR, know your Boundaries!

  HR is not the people's DOCTOR!   As HR, we are referred to by numerous job titles, but, being circumspect is very critical when discharging our strategic and operational functions in relation to the role.   Your job is, 'people manager; not a physician'.   I have experienced an instance where HR administered medication to a staff under the guise of 'First Aid' treatment and by the time the ailing employee eventually visited the clinic for a proper consultation, it was discovered the medication he took had further escalated the ailment. The medication had to be flushed out of his system before proper treatment could begin. We could only thank God that the staff stayed alive.   Often times, HR is of the assumption that their job as a people manager encapsulates administrating treatments to all employee's problems. Doing this could lead to more problems especially when it has to do with health and personal issues.   Proffer advice, hire in-house professional...

I am more than my 'hair'

What in your ESSENCE defines you?   Someone said to me recently, ' Don't you get tired of this hairstyle?   I am sharing this post to highlight the fact that everyone has what makes them comfortable and happy. It may seem incomprehensible to another person, however, accepting each person's individuality is a strength and helps to make the world a better place.   I wear dreads and the decision for this was borne out of a discovery of self. A discovery that when I opt for a natural appearance, I am empowered and feel free to express myself better. I also happier. On the other hand, I feel stifled when I don't feel natural.   Points to note:   - Respect people's individuality - Do not be quick to judge - Some people with quirky personalities may just be that best friend, colleague or team member - Live and let live - Be broad minded   I may wear one hairstyle but I am happy and free πŸ’ƒπŸΌ .....
